LGBTQ+ Affirming Treatment Center

Affirming mental health treatment in San Diego for ages 10–26

LGBTQ+ Affirming Treatment Center in San Diego

PRI Treatment Center is an LGBTQ+ affirming treatment center in San Diego, providing neurodiversity-affirming mental health care for young people ages 10–26 and their families.

Affirming care is built into every level of treatment we offer, including partial hospitalization (PHP) and intensive outpatient (IOP) programs, so clients can put their energy toward feeling better rather than wondering whether they’ll be understood.

Affirming Levels of Care at PRI Treatment Center

Everyone at PRI Treatment Center is called by the name and pronouns they use, and we trust each person to tell us who they are. Identity is understood as one part of the whole person, and treatment never aims to change it. That respect is part of every program we offer.

PARTIAL HOSPITALIZATION PROGRAM (PHP)
Full-day, weekday treatment for teens and young adults for individuals needing a higher level of structure and support.
INTENSIVE OUTPATIENT PROGRAM (IOP)
Three hours a day, three to five days a week, so clients can keep up with school, work, and daily life while getting consistent care.
ADHD INTENSIVE PROGRAM (AGES 10-13)
A specialized IOP track for neurodiverse children ages 10-13 and their families. The program runs three one-hour sessions, three days a week, over seven to eight weeks.

Who LGBTQ+ Affirming Care Helps

LGBTQ+ young people and their families come to PRI Treatment Center for support with a variety of concerns, like anxiety, depression, trauma, behavioral and social challenges, substance use, and much more. Neurodivergence, including ADHD and autism, is one of our core areas of focus.

For some young LGBTQ+ community members, the steady weight of stigma, rejection, or staying on guard adds to their experience. Researchers call this minority stress, the idea that ongoing prejudice may build on everyday stress and affect mental health over time.

Our team treats the concerns that brought someone in while always keeping that bigger picture in view, so care fits the whole person. Every situation is different, and our treatment plans reflect that.

LGBTQ+ Identity and Neurodivergence

LGBTQ+ identity and neurodivergence can show up together, and understanding that overlap can help treatment fit each person.

A 2020 study in Nature Communications found that transgender and gender-diverse adults were three to six times more likely than cisgender adults to have been diagnosed as autistic.

Because neurodiversity-affirming care is central to our approach to neurodivergent clients, no one has to choose which part of themselves gets understood during their time with us.

Family Involvement in LGBTQ+ Affirming Treatment

Families are an important part of treatment at PRI Treatment Center. Multifamily groups give parents and caregivers a chance to ask questions and learn about the topics their child is working on in treatment. Parent education and family sessions are also available, depending on the program and each family’s needs.
