Watching your teen struggle is hard, and knowing what kind of support they need isn’t always easy. PHP gives your family a structured, supportive path forward.
Protected Roots Integrative (PRI) offers a Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) for adolescents ages 13-18 in San Diego. PHP is a full-day, clinically intensive level of care that doesn’t require an overnight stay, giving your teen the structure of a higher level of care while staying connected to their home base.
Monday through Friday, 8:30am to 4pm
PRI offers a few different programs and levels of care for teens, each built around a specific age and set of needs
Families often look into PHP when a teen is experiencing:
If several of these sound familiar, PHP may be a good next step for your family. Our admissions team can help you understand if PHP fits your situation.
PRI offers two levels of outpatient care for adolescents, each built around a different intensity of need. PHP runs full days, five days a week, for teens who need the most structure without an overnight stay. IOP runs fewer hours per day, a few days a week, and often fits teens stepping down from PHP or needing less intensive support.
Every PHP client works with the same care team through individual therapy, daily multifamily group sessions, and evidence-based modalities, including CBT, DBT, and ACT.
PRI’s care is grounded in the Attachment, Regulation, and Competency (ARC) Framework, a relational, attachment-based model built around strengthening family attachment and building emotional regulation skills. Family involvement happens daily through multifamily group sessions.
Our team works from an academic, evidence-based lens that sees the whole person, not just a diagnosis, prioritizing what’s clinically supported.
PRI works with many major insurance providers, including Anthem, BlueCross BlueShield, Blue California, TriWest Healthcare Alliance, Cigna, Magellan Health, Sharp Health Plan, Optum, UnitedHealth Group, UnitedHealthcare, and TRICARE, to make quality care more accessible for families.
Our team can verify your benefits before treatment begins, so your family understands costs upfront.
Every family who reaches out to PRI is met with the same care we bring to treatment: individualized attention from the very first conversation. Our admissions team is here to walk you through your options and help you determine the best next steps for your unique situation.
Involuntary hospitalization involves a different, more restrictive process than PHP and depends on immediate safety risk. PHP is a voluntary, structured day-treatment option for teens who need support but aren't in acute crisis. If you're concerned about your teen's immediate safety, please call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room.
PHP is a structured day treatment program that includes therapy, medication management, and family involvement. It's a step below inpatient hospitalization in intensity, without requiring 24/7 care, and it allows teens to return home every evening.
PHP runs more hours per day and more days per week than IOP, making it a good fit for teens who need a higher level of structure and support.

Length of stay depends on individual progress. Our clinical team continually reassesses each teen's needs to determine the right pace and timeline.
